It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the Portales MainStreet Program is ramping up the efforts and working hard to provide a festive feel throughout the square in town. The non-profit organization is raising funds for new decorations for the holiday season and this year they are trying to do even more than they have in the past.
Curt Jaynes owns GardenSource Nursery and Landscaping and is also a member of the MainStreet Program. He says that the board of directors started a fundraiser two years ago for garland on the poles around the square and have decided to add more to it this year, in an effort to really make Portales look exciting and festive this holiday season. While the Portales Rotary Club and Little Miss Merry Christmas pageant provide the beautiful white lights around town, these new decorations will include shimmering pole decorations, garland, and bows.
The square has three sizes of poles and while they have the funding to decorate the short and medium sized ones, Jaynes says the fundraising efforts will be put toward the decorations for the ten tallest poles around the square. With no costs involved for the city itself, Portales MainStreet has relied on donations and full fundraising efforts from community members and businesses to make this task possible. Altrusa with a sizable cash donation, GardenSource Nursery, and the Roosevelt County Electric Co-op, for example, have donated their time and efforts to help with the new decorations.
These decorations will start to go up around the square on the 21st or 22nd of November. If you’d like to contribute to the efforts, you can visit the GoFundMe or drop off a donation at Do Drop In or GardenSource Nursery.
