Harold Eugene Heflin was born Aug. 8, 1939 in Portales to the home of Mary (Phillips) and Marvin Sherman Heflin and died at his home on Sunday morning, Oct. 1, 2023.  Harold grew up in Portales, and was baptized at the age of 16.  The very next Sunday morning he began preaching.  All of his life, Harold faithfully read his Bible on a daily basis.  He was a graduate of Portales High School.  For the remainder of his life, Harold farmed.

On July 14, 1968 in Portales, he was married to Eloise Marie Muse.  The couple had five children, two sons and three daughters.  As a father and later as a grandfather, he enjoyed playing with the little ones.  Being a very positive and upbeat person, with a very gentle soul, he loved to sing and whistle, especially hymns and gospel songs.
