COMMERCE, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico University outdoor track & field team had a strong day in Commerce, Texas, as the Lone Star Conference Championship meet entered its second day of competition. Melina Gryschka paced the women’s team and set a LSC Championship meet record in the 3,000m steeplechase. Marcus Parker had another strong outing and won the men’s 100m preliminary race to qualify for tomorrow’s finals.
Gryschka wrapped up a first-place finish in the women’s 3,00m steeplechase with a meet record time of 10:39.10. The time was nearly half a minute ahead of runner-up Amira Cunningham from Lubbock Christian. The meet’s previous record was set by Abilene Christian’s Susset Chloe, with a time of 10:48.78, in 2012.
Tito Chaidez-Martinez III (9:48.21) and Garrett Meyer (9:57.03) registered seventh and eighth-place performances in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase.
Parker’s time of 10.55 narrowly edged Angelo State’s Kenneth Turner for first place in the 100m preliminaries. Julian Coronado took fourth in the event with a time of 10.46, and will join Parker in the finals. Avery Rasher (48.61) and Travonne Armstead (49.00) registered fifth and eighth-place finishes in the 400m dash to reach the finals of the event. The duo of Ilia Eligulachvili (52.90) and Augustus Swanson (53.88) qualified for tomorrow’s finals in the 400m hurdles with second and third-place finishes.
Abbey Aultman posted a time of 1:04.44 to place eighth in the women’s 400m hurdles and will compete in the finals. Mason Swanson reached the finals in the 800m run with a fourth-place performance and a time of 2:20.05. Maijah Mathis posted a seventh-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 12.28.
