PORTALES, NM — On Tuesday afternoon, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its list of All-American performers from last weekend’s indoor national championship meet. Melina Gryschka garnered first team honors to headline a list of three honorees from the Eastern New Mexico University track & field team.
Gryschka garnered First Team All-America honors for her finish in the one-mile run and second-team laurels in the 3k run. She registered an eighth-place finish in the mile (4:47.25) and was 12th. Her performance in Birmingham, Ala., marked the first time a female track athlete from Eastern reached the finals at the championship meet.
Klaudia Szych and Marcus Parker also earned Second Team All-American honors at the event. Szych finished 10th in the 800m run, with a time of 2:10.05. Parker also registered a 10th-place finish, in the men’s 200m dash. He crossed the finish line with a time of 21.59 and was the only freshman to compete in the championship event.
