PORTALES, NM – After a strong performance in the season finale against fourth-ranked Midwestern State, the Eastern New Mexico University football remained in the top-25 of the American Football Coaches Association national poll. This week, the Greyhounds ranked 24th.
The ranking marked Eastern’s fifth week in the poll. The 2017 season saw ENMU post its first eight-win season since 2002. The Greyhounds four road wins were the most since the 2013 Lone Star Conference co-championship season. The four home victories this season were Eastern’s most since the 2004 season.
The eight wins also matched a team record for a first-year head coach, a mark originally set by Bill Kelly in the 1983 campaign. Senior running back Kamal Cass also posted the finest game of his career to close the season and surpassed Tom Manley (1973-76, 4,202 yards) as the programs career leader in rushing yards with 4,301.
