With six wins in their first seven games, the Eastern New Mexico University football team has both momentum and national recognition. On Monday morning, the Greyhounds made their first appearance in the American Football Coaches Association Poll in over a decade.
The Hounds made their 2017 debut at 24th in the poll after numerous weeks in the receiving votes section. The appearance in the Top-25 of the AFCA poll was the program’s first since a three-week stretch in 2003, capped by a ranking of 21 on October 14, 2003. Eastern is joined by fellow Lone Star Conference competitors Midwestern State (5TH) and Texas A&M-Commerce (10TH) in this week’s poll.
With a 2013 Lone Star Conference Championship and back-to-back H.E.A.R.T. of Texas Bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015, the highly-successful Hounds have been in the receiving votes section of the poll many times in the last five years.
After a bye week, the Eastern New Mexico University football team will host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, October 28th. The game will be sponsored by Wienerschnitzel and kick off at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium at 7 p.m.
