The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball program continued a strong tradition of successful summer camps with the completion of three different camps this summer.
Head coach Josh Prock and the rest of the Greyhound women’s basketball program hosted three different unique camps throughout the month of June, each of which focused on different ages and skill levels. The Hounds hosted 155 total individual campers between their annual Elite Camp and Youth Camp along with 33 high school teams during their annual Team Camp.
“We are pleased with how our camps went this summer,” coach Prock said, “We had a tremendous amount of participation and we do feel all our campers who participated definitely received great instruction and got better at their games. We feel all of our teams who attended our team camps were pleased and these teams definitely got better throughout the camp. A huge thanks and shout out goes to my assistants Durmon Jennings and Mikaehla Connor. I am beyond blessed to be able to work with two people who are so good at their jobs. Durmon and Mikaehla are very talented at what they do and I am so thankful for all they do for our program.”
All three camps required efforts from multiple departments all across the campus of Eastern New Mexico as well as the contributions of multiple individuals across the athletic department. Both Greyhound men’s and women’s basketball teams were well represented throughout the camps, particularly during the Youth Camp, which is hosted in conjunction with the Greyhound men’s program as well.
“We are so thankful for our women’s basketball players who did an outstanding job as well, they are all very hard working young ladies,” coach Prock said, “It is always great as well to have your former players come back and work camp and special thanks goes to Tori Tucker who did just an amazing job and helped tremendously with our camps. We did our Youth camp, June 10-12th with our men’s program, and we are thankful to work with our men’s coaches Tres Segler and Andre Shaw who did a great job as well as their players who came back to help out. We would also like to give special thanks to the following people: our athletic director Dr. Greg Waggoner, our training staff Hailey Parker and Laura Bergstrom, our sports information directors Ryan Shumaker and Adam Stanek, our athletic office staff Kim Sites and Ashley Lopez, Steve Estock and all of our housing department, our admissions team for giving a campus tour to our Elite Campers on June 1st, our local businesses and corporate partners, and our physical plant workers and night crew at the Greyhound arena who put in a lot of hours to help us put this camps on. These camps are a complete team effort and would not be possible with the help of everyone involved. Thank you to everyone.”
The camps continued to serve as great showcases for Eastern New Mexico as athletes from six different states participated in the Elite Camp and teams from four different states made the trip to Portales to compete in the Team Camp. The Hounds will host one final Elite Camp on Aug. 3, which will be open to athletes entering grades 9-12 with ambitions of pursuing a collegiate basketball career.
