After a five-game home stand, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (9-13; LSC 4-2) will hit the road for its next five contests. The Hounds open the week with a non-conference doubleheader at New Mexico Highlands, before a three-game Lone Star Conference series at Midwestern State.
The Greyhounds rematch against Highlands will start at noon MST on Wednesday. Eastern swept a doubleheader against the Cowgirls earlier in the season. They will play a single game at Midwestern State on Friday a 6 p.m., and close the series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.

Freshman pitcher Kaylee Rogers has been critical to Eastern’s early success, with a team-leading six victories, one save and a 3.75 earned run average. First baseman Erikka Burke has been notable so far as well. The junior first baseman is batting .387 with seven homers, an .839 slugging percentage and 20 runs batted in. The Hounds also are on pace for the second-best on-base percentage in team history, at .398.
After setting a team record for fielding percentage last year, the Hounds currently have a .953 percentage and have turned a number of crucial double plays.
Head Coach Katie Welborn has a 23-55 record in her second season at ENMU and is one win away from tying Ron Landschoot for sixth on the career list and two from tying Hollie Chadwick for fifth. She previously served as an assistant at regional powerhouse, Lubbock Christian.

The contest was a wild one, which saw NMHU plate eight runs in the third inning, while CCU scored five in the fifth. With the victory, the Cowgirls improved to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

The Mustangs are 9-11 on the season, with a 2-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Last week, MSU dropped a league series at Texas A&M-Kingsville, which included an extra-inning finale.
