RICHARDSON, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball has been selected to finish sixth in the 2019 Lone Star Conference Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll as voted upon by league coaches, sports information directors and media personnel.

Eastern New Mexico received 617 total votes and one first-place vote to finish just ahead of St. Mary’s and behind Tarleton State in the poll. Reigning Division II National Champions Lubbock Christian received 33 first-place votes and 813 total votes to enter the 2019-20 season as the preseason favorite to win the league in their first season as Lone Star Conference members.

The Greyhounds made their second appearance in the South Central Regional Tournament last season after compiling an overall record of 19-11. The Hounds finished the 2018-19 season with a record of 14-6 in Lone Star Conference play, earning the fourth seed in the LSC Postseason Tournament.

Reigning Lone Star Conference Co-Champions West Texas A&M and Angelo State were tabbed to finish second and third with 787 and 733 votes respectively in the poll. Fellow original Lone Star Conference members Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce were picked just ahead of the Hounds with 667 and 659 total votes.

The Greyhounds will have to manage a division consisting of Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, UT Permian Basin, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico if they are to earn one of 12 spots available for the 2019 Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament.

Eastern New Mexico will conclude their exhibition slate of games this evening at 7 p.m. inside The Pit against the University of New Mexico. The first official game action for the Hounds will take place in Durango, Colo. on Nov. 8-9 against New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis at the LSC/RMAC Challenge.
