WACO, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico continues to receive votes in the latest AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
The Greyhounds received four votes to remain in the receiving votes category for the fifth week this season after defeating Western New Mexico 48-17 to win the second consecutive Chile Bowl. The Hounds are the only Lone Star Conference team to appear in the receiving votes category while Texas A&M-Commerce (no. 23), Angelo State (no. 22) and Tarleton State (no. 4) all received enough votes to appear in the Top 25.
The Hounds strengthened their lead this weekend as the nation’s top rushing attack with a season-high 567 yards on the ground against Western New Mexico. The Greyhounds have rushed for 500 or more yards twice this season and have totaled 25 rushing scores as a team, the second highest total in Division II football this season.
Senior Paul Terry has been an offensive star this year, rushing for 1,167 yards on the season and eight touchdowns while senior Wyatt Strand leads the team with nine rushing scores.
Eastern New Mexico will square off with arch-rival West Texas A&M in the annual Wagon Wheel Game this weekend in Portales. The Buffs recently exited the receiving votes category in the national polls, but enter Saturday night’s contest with an overall record of 5-2
