The poll sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is voted upon six Sports Information Directors from the South Central region, three of which from the Lone Star/Heartland Conferences and three from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Hounds (4-1) received 16 votes in this week’s poll, finishing five votes ahead of Regis (RMAC) and St. Edward’s (HC), who tied for ninth. ENMU was just six votes back of Dixie State (RMAC) for seventh.
Eastern made its way into the poll after picking up a pair of victories at the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Hounds opened the tournament with a 58-54 win over Colorado State-Pueblo in the Friday game before taking down New Mexico Highlands 89-54 in a rematch of their season-opener.
With the two victories, the Greyhounds improved to 4-0 against NCAA Division II opponents for the first time since the 2005-2006 campaign when the Hounds won a pair of games over Western New Mexico, Montana State-Billings, and Fort Lewis to open the season.
Eastern will look to stay undefeated in Division II play this week as the Hounds open Lone Star Conference play at home against Midwestern State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday before challenging Cameron at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
