PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico volleyball team welcomes two conference opponents to Greyhound Arena this weekend. First, the Hounds will tangle with Western New Mexico University on Friday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. Then, Eastern will battle the University of Texas Permian Basin on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Recently, Eastern played its first home game of the season against New Mexico Highlands University, on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The Cowgirls and Greyhounds displayed a five-set thriller, with New Mexio Highlands coming away with a 3-2 victory.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

The Hounds enter the weekend with a 1-9 record and a 1-1 conference record. Offensively, Eastern posts 10.9 kills/per set (k/s), along with 9.8 assists/per set (a/s). On the defensive side of the floor, ENMU is finding 12.4 digs/per set (d/s), while averaging 1.9 blocks/per set (b/s) up front.

Jasmine Gannon leads the Greyhounds in k/s with 2.82, while leading the defense with 2.97 d/s. Mikaela Garvin stands next in k/s for the Hounds, with 2.13. Assisting the ENMU attack, Rae Sapigasupplies 4.43 a/s and Qitana Sapiga adds 3.76 a/s. Holding down the defense, Daejia Rodriguez has 2.70 d/s, while Gracelyn Stubbs lead the team in blocks with 0.87 b/s.

As a team, the Hounds stand third in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) with 13.32 opponent d/s.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Western New Mexico

The Mustangs come into Friday’s game holding a 1-8 record and 0-1 mark in LSC play. In their most recent contest, they fell 3-0 to UT Permian Basin.  

Statistically speaking, WNMU sports 11.00 k/s, with 9.6 a/s. Defensively, the Mustangs are finding 14.8 d/s, while having 1.8 b/s.

Leading the way in kills are Bria Augustine (2.72 k/s) and Maggie Roe (2.48 k/s). Hailey Hertzog stands out as the main setter with 6.17 a/s. Augustine holds the defense with 3.31 d/s, while Janey Cortez is just behind with 3.21 d/s. At the net, Megan Custer records 0.93 b/s.

UT Permian Basin

Coming into the weekend, UTPB stands at 6-3overall and 1-0 in conference play. Most recently the Falcons captured a 3-0 win over Western New Mexico.

The Falcons attack is finding 12.7 k/s, and supplying 10.9 a/s. UTPB’s 18.31 d/s stand third in the LSC, while averaging 1.87 b/s.

Individually, Aquincia Strambler stands sixth among the conference with 3.79 k/s. Analise Lucio supplies the 4th most assists in the LSC, with 8.19 a/s. Leading the Falcons defense is Daylee Doggett with 4.81 d/s. Taurie Magge is the leading blocker with 1.00 b/s.
