MIDLAND, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team finished out a four-game weekend series with a doubleheader at UT Permian Basin on Sunday. The Greyhounds picked up a 7-3 victories in both games.

GAME ONE: ENMU 7, UTPB 3

The Falcons saw a solo homer from Nick Hernandez to take the 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Eastern got the bats going in the top of the third however to gain the 6-1 advantage. The Hounds saw singles from Cole LuedekingDaniel Hunt, and Matthew Kory as well as a two-run homer from Andres Quintana.

UT Permian Basin cut into the deficit with a run in both the third and seventh innings, but Eastern New Mexico added an insurance run in the ninth to secure the 7-3 victory.

Offensively, Luedeking and Hunt led the way as they both were 2-for-4 at the plate.

Dalton Thatcher got the win on the mound for the Hounds. He struck out five batters while allowing two runs in six innings of work. Damian Acosta finished out the game and was credited with a save.

GAME TWO: ENMU 7, UTPB 3 (7 INNINGS, NON-CONFERENCE)

In the series finale, both teams started strong, scoring a run apiece in the first inning.

The Hounds gained the lead in the third when Hunt took advantage of a Falcon error to get on base before stealing second. A Luedeking double sent Hunt home and then Nick Schifftner hit an RBI double to make it a 3-1 game.

Eastern saw one run cross the plate in both the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth to stretch the lead even more.

However, the Falcons saw a two-run homer from Peyton Koopman in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3. UT Permian Basin continued to battle in its last at bat, but Eastern New Mexico held on to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Luedeking led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. On the mound, James Romero earned the win with two strikeouts and two runs allowed in 3.1 innings.

The Greyhounds are back in action March 12-13 when they head to UT Tyler for a three-game conference series.
