The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team jumped up to fifth in the latest D2SIDA South Central Regional Poll that was released on Monday.
The weekly poll, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is voted upon by six sports information directors from the South Central region, three of which from the Lone Star/Heartland Conferences and three from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Eastern received 30 votes, finishing a vote ahead of Black Hills State from the RMAC for the No. 5 spot and just three votes back of LSC rival Tarleton State for fourth.
The Lone Star occupies four of the top five spots in this week’s poll as West Texas A&M remains in the No. 1 spot. St. Mary’s from the Heartland Conference made the leap to second after picking up a win at Angelo State, who fell to the No. 3 position in the poll after the loss.
The Hounds made their move in the poll after picking up a big 104-44 victory over Northern New Mexico in their final home game of 2018. The 104 points scored by the Greyhounds in that game was the most since Jan. 2, 2012 when ENMU set a program-record in points scored with a 122-100 win at Oklahoma Panhandle State. The 60-point scoring margin was also Eastern’s largest margin of victory since becoming an NCAA Division II institution in 1984.
With the win, the Greyhounds are off to their first 7-1 start since the 1992-93 season, a year that ENMU went 23-5 and won its first ever Lone Star Conference Championship.
Eastern will return to action on Monday, Dec. 17 as the Hounds will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. for a 12 p.m. matchup with Oklahoma Christian.
