The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team is continuing to build a strong roster for the upcoming season as the Hounds have officially signed Division I transfer Jasmine Williams for the 2019-20 campaign.
Williams is a 5’11” forward from Wichita Falls, Texas and will be joining the program after spending the last two seasons at NCAA Division I South Carolina State. Williams appeared in 31 games and made 21 starts for the Lady Bulldogs, averaging 5.2 points per game while leading the squad with 199 rebounds (6.6 rpg) during the 2017-18 season.
“Jasmine is a tremendous young lady who has a lot of experience and will be able to bring a lot to the table for our team,” said ENMU head coach Josh Prock. “She has competed at a very high level over the last three years and we are extremely excited Jasmine is joining our family!”
Before competing at SCSU, Williams played at Eastern Oklahoma State, where she averaged 15 ppg and 11 rpg. Williams earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Second Team All-Region Two accolades after ranking 10th in the nation in scoring and was the second-best rebounder in the region. Williams’ season-high in scoring was a 28-point performance and also ripped down 28 rebounds in a single game in her time with the Mountaineers.
“One of the things we loved about Jasmine is that she plays extremely hard the entire time she is on the floor and does not mind doing the little things to help her team win,” Prock added. “Jasmine is an excellent young lady who brings a lot of maturity on the court and will become a great leader for us.”
Williams will be a welcome addition to a Greyhounds team that is coming off their second NCAA Tournament appearance in three seasons after finishing the 2018-19 campaign with a 19-11 record, which included a program-best 12-1 record inside Greyhound Arena.
