Eastern New Mexico volleyball will take a midweek trip to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M University in a Lone Star Conference (LSC) contest on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m. at WTAMU Fieldhouse.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern hosted its first weekend of LSC matchups of the 2021 season at Greyhound Arena. The Hounds fell in both games, dropping Friday’s clash with Western New Mexico, 3-1, then falling to University of Texas Permian Basin the next day, 3-0.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

ENMU currently are sporting 10.7 kills per set (k/s), along with 9.7 assists per set (a/s) on offense. On defense, the Hounds are suppling 12.6 digs per set (d/s), along with 1.9 blocks per set (b/s).

Jasmine Gannon has been an important part of the Eastern offense and defense this season. Gannon is finding 2.80 k/s along with 2.82 d/s for the Greyhounds. Mikaela Garvin supports the offense with 2.16 k/s, while Rae Sapiga and Qitana Sapiga are leading the team in assists with 4.43 a/s and 3.76 a/s, respectively. Up front, Jordan O’Connor-Dempsey supports the ENMU defense with 0.82 b/s, with Gracelyn Stubbs adding 0.80 b/s.

Eastern as a group standout in the LSC for opponents digs and blocks. The Greyhounds sit third in terms of opponent digs with 13.56, while standing in sixth for blocks with 1.89 b/s.

SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES

West Texas A&M come into Wednesday’s match with a 9-2 record, and a 3-1 standing in LSC play. First a 3-0 sweep over UTPB, followed by a 3-1 win over Western New Mexico. The Lady Buffs have received national ranked votes this season, but have not yet broken into the top-25.

The Buffs stand as one of the most efficient attacking teams in the LSC. West Texas A&M is posting a hitting percentage of .257, while holding opponents to a conference best .107 hitting percentage. West Texas also hold top-5 marks in the conference: 13.81 k/s (3rd), 12.70 a/s (5th), 17.59 d/s (5th), and 2.51 b/s (1st).

Torrey Miller leads the Lady Buffs offense with 3.89 k/s, those marks sit third in the LSC. Sadie Snay and Blair Moreland provide the assists in attack, with 5.95 a/s and 5.35 a/s, respectively. Leading the defense, Chandler Vogel is finding 4.84 d/s, landing 4th in LSC rankings. At the net, Marjani Stanfill notches 1.35 b/s, while Lauren Marler is posting 1.28 b/s.
