The Eastern New Mexico men’s team totaled 80 points to come away with an 11th place finish in the Howard College Rodeo over the weekend.
Freshman Stran Thompson partnered up with Kyler Bell of South Plains College to finish in third place in the average after times of 7.2 and 16.7 in the team roping event. Thompson collected all 80 team points for the Hounds to place Eastern in 11th out of 17 teams in the rodeo.
The women’s team was represented by two members in Saturday night’s short go, both of which competed in the breakaway roping event. Junior Kennedy Smith matched two other times of 2.9 in the first go to split first, second and third, but was unable to register a time in Saturday night’s short round in what would prove to be a tough round for all competitors with just three recorded times.
Smith split fourth, fifth and sixth in the average despite the no time on Saturday night, and was joined by teammate Saige Bell, who qualified for the short go with a time of 3.2 in the long round.
Eastern New Mexico has just one more rodeo remaining on the 2019 schedule as they hit the road on April 25-27 to compete in the Tarleton State Rodeo in Stephenville, Texas.
