EL PASO Texas – Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball fell 71-57 against the University of Texas at El Paso in their last exhibition game of the season.

Taking the lead in the first eight minutes of play, the Greyhounds started off strong, but found foul trouble early on. Five Hounds were called for three or more fouls taking the team total to 23 before the end of the game.

Eastern New Mexico rallied in the second half, coming within seven after an eleven-point run, allowing just a single point from the Miners. However, UTEP responded back, knocking down back to back threes. Unable to generate another comeback, the Hounds gained more fouls hoping to stop the clock. Devin Pullum hit multiple free throws before calling it a night due to foul trouble. Junior Brandon Meadows also went to the line for a pair of free throws in the last minute of play, but there was not enough time on the clock for the Hounds.

Finishing the game with a 66.7 free throw percentage, the Hounds led the Miners from the free throw line going 16-24. Isaiah Murphy led the Hounds in points, recording 14, and hit a perfect 100 percent from beyond the arc and just inside the circle. Junior Yosnier Cobas, a new member of the Greyhound family, knocked down eleven points in 18 minutes of play, the most points in a single game so far this season for Cobas and finished with a 62.5 field goal percentage.

The Hounds look to start their regular season conference play with a visit to rival West Texas A&M next Saturday, November 23rd.
