DALLAS, Texas. – Eastern New Mexico volleyball fell against (6) Dallas Baptist University, 3-0, in the opening round of the 2021 LSC Volleyball Championship on Tuesday evening. The Hounds end its season at 7-19, while DBU moves on to the LSC quarterfinals and hold a 14-7 record.
The Lady Patriots jumped out to an early advantage, 12-8, but the Hounds stormed back to tie the set at 13-13 in the first set. In the 5-1 run, Jasmine Gannonfound two kills, and Gannon combined with Adriana Puni for a block. Both teams traded points, until DBU sparked a 5-1 run to build some space. The home team would eventually captured the first set, 25-20 DBU.
DBU took a 7-4 lead as the second set began. Eastern roared back to take a 9-8 lead over the Lady Patriots. However, DBU responded with a large run of their own, taking a 16-12 lead. A back and forth ensued, as DBU held on to a 22-16 advantage. The Hounds supplied a late comeback to bring the score to 23-21, after a Jordan O’Connor-Dempsey found a kill bringing the Hounds within two. The comeback effort would end as DBU ended the set 25-22, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third stanza saw DBU control the early stages of the set, taking a 10-3 lead out of the gate. Eastern would chip away at the Lady Patriots advantage, but the Hounds still trailed 15-9. DBU would close the frame on a 10-6 run, winning the set 25-15, and the match 3-0.
NOTABLE STATS
- The Lady Patriots held an edge on kills, 41-34, assists, 32-28, and digs, 24-20.
- Both teams were evenly matched in blocks with eight apiece.
- O’Connor-Dempsey led the Hounds with eight kills. Three other Greyhounds added six kills to the attack: Kali Nelson, Gracelyn Stubbs, and Gannon.
