The ENMU baseball team fell in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to Cameron on Friday night, dropping the first game 12-4 before falling 11-0 in the nightcap at McCord Field.
Much like the opening game of the series, the Aggies (18-22, 8-6 LSC) scored early against the Greyhounds (13-26, 1-14 LSC) in the first game of the doubleheader. Cameron tallied five runs in the first, starting a run of 12 unanswered.
The Hounds were able to get the bats going in the seventh inning, pushing across four runs in the frame. Eastern opened the inning with Malcolm Boehm being hit by a pitch followed by a Joseph Zubia double to right to put runners on second and third.
Malcolm Smith put the Hounds on the board with an RBI sac fly to center, scoring Marc Vega pinch running for Boehm to notch Eastern’s first run of the game. Nicholas Ankerman also drove a run in with an RBI groundout to the pitcher, plating Zubia to make it a 12-2 game.
Following a pair of singles by Paul Tapia and Joel Paulino, Tristan Bowden drove both in with a two RBI double to cap off the Eastern scoring.
Cameron tallied its 12 runs on 13 hits with an error while Eastern finished with four runs on eight hits and an error.
Zubia and Tapia led the ENMU bats with two hits apiece. Zubia slashed 2-for-3 with a run while Tapia went 2-for-4 with a run from the plate.
Despite the Hounds pitching struggles, Eastern got a pair of strong pitching performances from out of the pen from Leo Griego and Jakob Reyes, each throwing a scoreless inning of relief.
The Greyhounds’ bats struggled in the second game as CU starting pitcher Hayden Jaco no-hit the Hounds in the 11-0 seven inning game. Even though the Eastern bats struggled, the Greyhound pitchers between Enrique Perez, Michael Holliday, and Randall Lucero gave up only two earned runs in six innings of work.
Eastern will look to salvage a game in the series tomorrow as the Hounds will wrap up their series at Cameron with a nine inning game starting at noon.
