PORTALES, NM – Junior pinch hitter Courtney Vigil stepped to the plate in the sixth inning and drove a go-ahead two-run blast over the left field fence for the decisive runs in Sunday’s Lone Star Conference series finale. The blast lifted the Greyhounds (8-5; LSC 3-0) to a 7-5 win over cross-state rival Western New Mexico University (1-12; LSC 0-3) and a three-game series sweep.
“What a weekend,” said Head Coach Katie Welborn. ” I am so proud of the resilience of my players, the mindset of my seniors, and the grit of my pitchers. When Courtney Vigil steps off the bench to go hit a two run – go-ahead – bomb, she shows the mindset of the team this year. Proud of the girls, I cannot wait to see what they do on Tuesday.”
