PORTALES, NM —HERO Sports recently released a list of what it deemed the top collegiate football program in each of the 50 states. The Eastern New Mexico University football team once again was recognized as the top program in the state of New Mexico.
The Greyhounds have posted a 27-18 record since the 2013 season, with a 17-11 mark in Lone Star Conference play. During that span, Eastern has claimed a share of the 2013 LSC title, reached the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in each of the last two seasons, and won three of four Wagon Wheel Games against West Texas A&M. Last year. The 2016 season saw ENMU earn 11 All-Lone Star Conference selections, with quarterback Brad Hardin earning LSC All-Academic Honors. Quarterback Wyatt Strand was named LSC Freshman of the Year, while Kamal Cass was chosen as the Offensive Back of the Year and went on to become Eastern’s first AFCA All-American since the 2004 season. Three Greyhounds also were chosen to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society.
