PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team under Head Coach David Gomez has finalized its schedule for the 2019 season.
The Hounds went 24-24 under Gomez last season, marking the third time in the last five seasons that the Greyhounds finished .500 or better.
Eastern will officially open the season next week on Friday, Feb. 1, as the Hounds will compete at Dallas Christian College for a Round Robin Tournament. In the Friday games, ENMU will first take on Ecclesia College for a doubleheader starting at noon. On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Greyhounds will face Hannibal-LaGrange at 12 p.m. before challenging Dallas Christian at 3 p.m.
The Hounds will return to Dallas Christian the following week for another tournament, taking on DCC again on Feb. 8 at 9:30 a.m. before playing Park (Mo.) at 12 p.m. On the following day, Eastern will challenge Southwestern College (Kan.) in a doubleheader starting at 9:30 a.m.
The Greyhounds non-conference schedule continues the following weekend, as ENMU will travel to Austin, Texas on Feb. 15 for a four-game slate against Huston Tillotson. Eastern will open the series against the Rams with a doubleheader, starting at 12 p.m. on Friday. The two teams will play once more at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 and will wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. bout on Sunday.
Eastern will play one more non-conference foe before the start of Lone Star Conference play on Feb. 26. The Greyhounds will travel to Goodwell, Okla. to face Oklahoma Panhandle State.
Later that week, the Hounds will officially open LSC play with their first home games of the season. ENMU will host Cameron for a four-game series, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. before closing out the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Greyhounds will wrap up conference play at Texas A&M-Kingsville from May 3-5 while the Lone Star Conference Tournament is slated the following week from May 9-11.
