KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Maijah Mathis, Kandice Miles, Lateria Slaughter, and Danee Bustos wrapped up the 2019 outdoor season by putting together the best finish ever by an ENMU relay team at the NCAA Championships as the Hounds came away with fifth place at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kingsville, Texas on Saturday.
The four-woman squad battled through the windy elements to cross the finish line in 46.68, finishing ahead of Grand Valley State, Southern Wesleyan, and St. Augustine’s to claim the top five spot.
The placement ranks as the best of any Greyhounds relay team ever at the NCAA Championships, topping the seventh place finish by the men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Avery Rasher, Justin Rocha, Jacques Hall, and Julian Coronado-Clark at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Mathis, Miles, Slaughter, and Bustos finished three spots higher than their eighth place finish at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, N.C. last year with a time of 45.74.
The relay squad closed out a successful run for the Hounds at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which also included a ninth place finish in the women’s 200-meter dash for Miles as well as a 12th place finish in the men’s 800-meter run by Ivar Moinat yesterday.
