One of the greatest runs in the history of the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team came to a close on Friday night. In their first appearance in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament, the Greyhounds (5-9-6) dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to LSC Champion and top seeded Angelo State at ASU Soccer Field (13-3-1).
The 15th-ranked Angelo State Rambelles had won six of their last seven and had a first-round bye entering Friday’s matchup. Fifth-seeded Eastern was coming off their first-ever LSC Tournament win, a 4-0 decision at Midwestern State.
Angelo State struck for the only goal of the game, when Avery McNeme picked up her own rebound and scored on a high header, 8:49 into the second half. Alejandra Camarillo made nine saves for the Greyhounds. Sammy Cude made four saves for ASU.
The Rambelles held a 10-4 edge in shots on goal in the game. Hayden Zuniga and Ariel Lopez each had two of ENMU’s shots on goal.
