After one of the greatest seasons in the history of the program, Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball coach Josh Prock has announced a pair of honorees. Mikaelha Connor was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player, while Jasmine Hotchkins earned the Silver Pride Award.
The duo led the Greyhounds to their third-ever 20-win season, the team’s first Lone Star Conference title, and the squad’s first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. During the season, the Hounds picked up landmark wins, which included the first road victory over eventual NCAA Division II South Central Region Champion, West Texas A&M, since 1981.
“Mikaehla had an outstanding year for us,” Head Coach Josh Prock said. “She showed tremendous leadership on and off the court this season. She is a very tough young lady and we are very proud of all her accomplishments this year.”
Connor was selected to the LSC Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team. She also was named first team all-conference and to the LSC All-Defensive Team. She was a driving force for the Greyhounds on both ends of the court this season. Her performance led to the program’s first conference title, the top seed in the league tournament, and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. She garnered three LSC Player of the Week awards, two for her offense, and the other for defense.
“Jasmine embodies everything we are looking for here at ENMU women’s basketball,” Prock said. “She continued to show tremendous growth this season and we are very proud of everything she has been able to do this past season.”
Hotchkins was a dynamic part of the Greyhound backcourt and was adept at distributing the ball to her teammates and a prolific threat from three-point range. She shot .382 for the season from outside the arc and reached double figures in three of the last four contests. Hotchkins scored a career-best 16-points against LSC co-Champion Angelo State and matched that performance in the regular-season finale against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
