LUBBOCK, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track & field team opened the 2018 season strong at the Texas Tech University Red & Black Open on Friday. The Greyhounds were well represented and received numerous strong performances, led by Marcus Parker and Maijah Mathis.

Parker took first place in the men’s 200m dash and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 21.29. Mathis had strong outings in both the women’s 60m and 200m dashes. She placed ninth in the 60m with a time of 7.81 and 11th in the 200m with a time of 25.21.

Kenneth Lloyd and Demetry Rodriguez highlighted the men’s team in the field events. Lloyd took second in the high jump, with a leap of 6′-9.5″. Rodriguez was fourth in the B Section of the shot put with a throw of 44-4.25″.

Sierra Quinones took eighth in the women’s 800m run with a time of 2:30.89. Abby Kepfer placed 11th in the one-mile run at 5:39.87. The women’s team also performed well in the 400m dash, with Kandace Miles placing 11th at 59.50. She was immediately followed by Mason Swanson (59.90), while Kiana Covington took 15th at 1:01.65.

Ivar Moinat was 12th in the men’s 400m dash with a finishing time of 50.31. Garrett Meyer placed 14th in the men’s one-mile run at 4:35.93, while Lorenzo Juarez took 18th at 4:37.65.

For the women’s team, Bryanna Williams placed seventh in the B Section of the shot put with a throw of 33′-8.25″. Danee Bustos was 11th in the high jump, with a leap of 5′-1″.
