ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University outdoor track & field teams had a strong day at University of New Mexico’s Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational. The Hounds had several exceptional performances in the distance runs, led by Marcel Skalecki, Lorenzo Juarez, and Coley Norcross. Melina Gryschka was the final competitor for the Greyhounds at the Texas Relays. The junior finished the 1500 in 4:28.45 to place sixth, rounding out a great showing by the Green and Silver in Austin.
The men’s team had five top-ten finishers in the 1,500, run, paced by Skalecki’s fourth-place finish at 4:13.20. Garrett Meyer placed 6th, Luis Villasenor (7th), Lorenzo Juarez 8th), and Benjamin Lantz (9th). Juarez led the Hounds in the 3,000m run with an 11th-place finish at 9:28.21, and was followed by Tito Chaidez (12th), Garrett Meyer (13th) and Christian Monroy (14th).
Norcross paced the women’s team in the 3,000m run with a fifth-place performance at 11:06.92. She was followed by Abby Kepfer (7th) and Nancy Rodriguez (10th). Kepfer was the team leader in the 1,500m run with a fifth-place finish at 5:11.08, and was followed by Norcross (7th) and Rodriguez (9th).
The Hounds also excelled in the middle-distance races, with Ivar Moinat finishing third in the men’s 800m at 1:55.13, while Kandace Miles won the women’s 400m with a time of 1:02.48. Sierra Quinones was second in the 800m at 2:23.68.
