Softball Head Coach Amanda Fefel announced the addition of 10 new student-athletes to the Eastern New Mexico softball team in preparation for the 2022 season.

Fefel brings in a signing class made up of six first-year players and four transfers. The six freshmen are Andraya Alvarado (Santa Ana, Calif.), Jennifer Gress (Spring, Texas), Taylor Harrison (Albuquerque, N.M.), Edyn Lopez (Los Lunas, N.M.), Clarissa Marrujo (Norwalk, Calif.), and Lisette Urquidez (Tucson, Ariz.). The four transfers coming to Portales are Torianna Borunda (Alamogordo, N.M.), Ashlee Lucero (Bloomfield, N.M.), Vivian Pichardo (El Paso, Texas), and Sierra Wooley (La Porte, Texas).

“We are excited to welcome our 2021-22 softball signing class. This is a very talented and versatile group of players who all possess the tenacity and willingness to win,” said head coach Fefel. “Coming from competitive travel ball programs and junior colleges, their winning mindset will make an immediate impact in the Greyhound softball program,” said Fefel.

The Greyhounds add three pitchers to the staff with Urquidez and Gress serving solely in that role, the former comes from Tucson High Magnet School and the latter comes from Andy Dekaney High School. Harrison, from La Cueva High Scool, will spend time on the hill but can also serve as a utility player for Eastern. Alvarado will be part of ENMU’s roster as a catcher, after coming from Villa Park High School.

In the field, the Greyhounds have a healthy mix of infielders, outfielders, and utility players. Wooley and Marrujo will patrol the outfield, with Wooley being a graduate transfer from Jarvis Christian College, and Marrujo coming from La Mirada High School.

Joining the Hounds from Barton Community College is Ashlee Lucero at third base. Edyn Lopez comes to Portales from Los Lunas High School to slot into the infield, predominately playing shortstop or second base.

Finally, two transfers from El Paso Community College, Vivian Pichardo and Torianna Borunda, will help the Greyhounds in multiple areas around the field and on the base paths.

The Eastern New Mexico softball team returns to the diamond for the upcoming 2022 season. In 2021, the Hounds finished the season with an overall record of 4-27 and 4-26 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Fefel will look to build upon those records as she will lead the team for the first time.
