After a strong performance against University of Texas of the Permian Basin, last weekend, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team will hit the road. This weekend, ENMU will face Texas A&M-Commerce in a three-game Lone Star Conference series.

The three-game LSC series will open on Friday, with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. MST, and conclude with a single game on Saturday, at noon. Live statistics and video will be available for all three games at www.LionAthletics.com.

With 16 overall wins and nine LSC victories, the Greyhounds have surpassed their totals from last season. The Hounds nine LSC wins are the most since the 2007 season.Eastern’s lineup boasts five players (Erikka Burke, Cameron Conrad, Susannah Chandler, Samantha Brockman, and Kylee Keller) batting at least .306. The team currently is on pace for its third-best on-base percentage (.387).

Last week, Burke blasted two homeruns in the finale against University of Texas of the Permian Basin to move into a tie for third (with Maegan Rhoten) on the ENMU career list with 21. With 12 homers this season, she ranks third on the ENMU single-season list, with the potential to move up a spot with every subsequent round –tripper she hits. Kaylee Rogers leads the Hounds in the circle with 12 wins and a 4.18 earned run average.

Welborn has won 30 games and is in her second season at ENMU. Earlier this season, she passed Ron Landschoot and Hollie Chadwick, and currently ranks fifth on the ENMU career wins list.

In the Series with UTPB
Eastern is 2-6 all-time against Texas A&M-Commerce, with a 1-3 mark on the road. The Hounds won the last meeting, 8-7, at home. In last year’s series finale, the Lions used a six-run fifth inning to erase a 5-0 deficit, but ENMU scored the final three runs. Kyra Sirag’s two-run triple in the sixth inning gave ENMU the lead. Burke earned the win after three innings of relief.
