PORTALES, NM – This weekend, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (20-33) will conclude the 2017 with a three-game Lone Star Conference series against West Texas A&M. The Greyhounds have won six home games this season, most recently a three-game sweep over University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
The Greyhounds will open the series on Friday against Lady Buffs at 1 p.m. MST, with a doubleheader. The finale will begin on Saturday at noon. Following Saturday’s season finale, the Greyhounds will honor its three seniors Susannah Chandler, Katie Ripple, and Audrey Velasquez.

With 20 wins, the Greyhounds have posted their highest victory total since the 2007 season. ENMU’s 10 Lone Star Conference victories is also the team’s high mark since that same season.
Eastern’s lineup boasts five players (Courtney Vigil, Erikka Burke, Susannah Chandler, Samantha Brockman, and Cameron Conrad) batting at least .304. The team currently is on pace for its fourth-best on-base percentage (.381) and ninth-highest slugging percentage (.426).
Erikka Burke currently is on pace for the seventh-best single-season slugging percentage in team history (.705) and has the second-most homers in a season (13). Kaylee Rogers‘ 15 wins are fourth most in a season for ENMU, while her four shutouts tie for fourth.
Head Coach Katie Welborn has won 34 games and is in her second season at ENMU. Earlier this season, she passed Ron Landschoot and Hollie Chadwick, and currently ranks fifth on the ENMU career wins list, just two wins behind Amber Daniel.

West Texas A&M ranked sixth in the latest NFCA poll and is 37-9 entering this week’s games against the Greyhounds. With a 21-6 Lone Star Conference record, the Lady Buffs are one-half of a game ahead of Cameron for second place in the standings.
Kevin Blaskowski is in his 12th season with the Lady Buffs. He has a record of 461-244.
Inside the Series with West Texas A&M
The Greyhounds are 14-30 against West Texas A&M with a 4-11 mark at home. Eastern’s last win in the series was a 6-2 win in Canyon, on March 25, 2007. Nicole Dickson scattered nine hits to move to 12-4 on the year. After Cassandra McCommons scored the game’s first run in the fifth inning on a groundout, Michelle Anderson belted a two-run homer.
The first meeting between the teams occurred in the 2006 season in San Angelo, and was a 4-1 win for ENMU. Eastern won the first four games between the teams, with the first loss coming on February 12, 2006.
