University of Arizona (40.61) for first place in the event. Eastern’s performance earned provisional qualification to the NCAA Division II Championship meet, to be held May 25-27, in Bradenton, Fla.
Parker also went on to win the 100 and 200-meter dashes, and posted qualifying marks. He finished the 100m with a time of 10.65 and the 200 with a time of 21.20. Augustus Swanson set a qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 52.68.
Freshman Ivar Moinat placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.53, to eclipse Dennis Kerg’s record from 2007. Omer Almog was right behind at 1:53.58 to place fourth with Eastern’s second best time in the event of the NCAA era. Almog also shattered multi-time All-American Isaiah Samoei’s school record in the 1,500m run, to earn second place in the event with a time of 3:53.16.
The women’s 4x100m relay team of Dominique Zamora, Maijah Mathis, Abbey Aultman, and Lateria Slaughter also rewrote the history books with a new team record of 47.83. Brooke Walker eclipsed Mika Willis’ 400-meter hurdle record, set in the 2012 season, with a time of 1:05.87. Mason Swanson and Sierra Quinones placed sixth and ninth in the 800-meter run, respectively. Kiana Covington took eighth in the 400m run, while Mathis was eighth in the 100m dash.
Kenneth Lloyd’s high jump of 6′-8.75″ provisionally qualified for the championships and broke Michael Moore’s record from 2014. Lloyd also matched the school record in the long jump, with a leap of 22′-7″. The long jump record was originally set in 2003 by Corey Clay and is ENMU’s longest standing record of the NCAA era.
The Eastern New Mexico University track & field team will return to action on Saturday, March 25, for the Bobby Lane Invitational. The event will be hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington.
