The Eastern New Mexico University men’s outdoor track & field team registered another strong week and posted multiple championship qualifiers at the West Texas A&M Classic. Their continued performance has led to continued national recognition, as the Hounds appeared in the United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association national poll for the fourth consecutive week.
This week, the Greyhound ranked 17th in the poll. Eastern was joined by fellow Lone Star Conference competitors: Angelo State (2nd), Texas A&M-Commerce (8th), West Texas A&M (9th), and Texas A&M-Kingsville (19th). The LSC topped the USTFCCCA Conference Index Poll.
Eastern already has qualified a number of student athletes for the national championship meet. Marcus Parker is tied for eighth (10.44, Texas Relays) in the 100m and third in the 200m (20.99, WT Classic & Multi). Julian Coronado is 37th in the 100m (10.60, Texas Relays), while Augustus Swanson is sixth (51.98, WT Classic & Multi) in the 400m hurdles. The Hounds had three 4x100m relay teams in the top eight, with Jacques Hall, Avery Rasher, Coronado, and Parker tying for the national lead (40.37, Willie Williams Classic). Kenneth Lloyd is 11th (6′-9.5″, WT Classic & Multi) in the high jump.
The Eastern New Mexico University outdoor track & field teams will return to action next Saturday, to compete in the West Texas A&M Invitational.
