Men’s Basketball  Nicolle Holcomb

PORTALES, NM – After missing the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 restrictions, Eastern New Mexico head men’s basketball coach Brent Owen recently announced the 2021-22 schedule.

Eastern has one exhibition and 28 regular season contests on the schedule this year.

“Scheduling is an incredibly important piece to building a successful program and we believe this schedule is exactly what we needed to steer our program in the right direction,” said Owen. “In looking at past schedules, I noticed immediately that we needed to do a better job of providing our fans with more opportunities to see us play at home. While that is not an easy task with our location, it was a must. We were able to put together a schedule that includes thirteen contests in Greyhound Arena along with an additional home game that will happen in Clovis in which we hope to reach out to our 2,300+ alumni who reside there.”

The Greyhounds open the season on the road with an exhibition against the University of Arizona on November 1. The team then takes on Fort Lewis College and New Mexico Highlands University on Nov. 13-14 at The Pit in Albuquerque.

“We are excited for our fans and players to have the opportunity to experience games at the University of Arizona’s McKale Center and the University of New Mexico’s “The Pit”, two of the most recognized venues in college basketball,” Owen said.

Eastern returns to Greyhound Arena for games against Northern New Mexico College on Nov. 19 and Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Nov. 22.

Nov. 26-27, the Hounds head to Canyon, Texas for the WT Thanksgiving Classic where they will face Southwest Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Baptist University.

According to Owen, “We believe our games against Fort Lewis, New Mexico Highlands, Southwestern Oklahoma State and 2020 NCAA tournament participant Oklahoma Baptist will provide the challenge and strength of schedule that we need in order to be prepared come January.”

ENMU will have six contests in December, highlighted by a Dec. 2 contest in Greyhound Arena against West Texas A&M University and a game versus the University of the Southwest that will be played at Clovis High School on Dec. 4.

The annual Youth Day game will be held on December 16 against Champion Christian College.

Lone Star Conference play starts for Eastern on the road at Texas A&M International University on Dec. 31 and Texas A&M University-Kingsville on January 2.

The Greyhounds have eight contests in Jan. followed by seven in February before the LSC Tournament in Frisco, Texas from March 3-6. The NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship will take place Mar. 12-15 with the NCAA Division II Championship happening Mar. 23-26.

“We couldn’t be more excited that the season is approaching and we hope you are anxious to watch YOUR Greyhounds in action!” said Owen.
