PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico University basketball teams will return this week for a two-game Lone Star Conference home stand. Both teams remain in contention for spots in the league tournament and will look to improve their position.

On Thursday, the Hounds will host Tarleton State in games sponsored by Combs Properties. The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. MT, and the men’s contest will follow at 7:30 p.m. The theme will be 90’s night, so make sure to dress in your best 1990’s attire!

On Saturday, the teams will host Texas A&M-Commerce in games sponsored by Roosevelt General Hospital. The women’s game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start, while the men’s game is at 4 p.m.Saturday is our ‘Green Out’ day, so let’s fill the Arena with as much green as possible. At halftime of the women’s game, ENMU Athletics will honor the 1992-93 women’s basketball team which capture the Lone Star Conference title 25 years ago.

About the Women’s Game
The Hounds are outscoring the opposition by a slim 60.7-60.3 margin and are 3-1 in overtime. Mikaehla Connor paces ENMU with 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game with a .436 shooting percentage. Daeshi McCants is close behind at 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds. Brandi Gomez has contributed 8.7 points per game and has a team-high 27 three-point field goals.

Last Thursday, Eastern rallied from a 17-point deficit to pick up their third road win over #17 West Texas A&M in program history. The victory marked the first time the Hounds posted back-to-back road wins over the Lady Buffs and was the first overtime game between the programs.
Eastern has a 15-31 record against Tarleton State with an 8-14 mark at home. In December, the Hounds posted an overtime victory at TSU for their first three-game win streak in the series since a four-game stretch from 1997-99.

The Greyhound bench played a key role in the December road win and outscored Tarleton State’s reserves by a 34-11 margin. ENMU shot five-for-six from the floor in the extra session with Kaylee Edgemon scoring seven of her game-high 17 points over the final five minutes. Shelby Jones finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

About the Men’s Game
Prior to Eastern’s game at West Texas A&M, the Greyhounds had played in four straight games decided by three or fewer points, with two games going to overtime. Since Dec. 15, Eastern has a 5-4 record with two of the losses coming in overtime.

Lamarquis Thompson leads the Greyhounds with 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Zach Parker and Jamani Pierce average 11.4 and 9.9 points per game, respectively.
The Greyhounds are 8-42 in the series against Tarleton State with a 5-17 mark at home. The last two meetings have been on the road and decided by a combined three points.

In December, Tarleton’s Preston Enloe hit a three-point shot with just 10 seconds left to lift the
Texans to a 68-67 decision. The game featured eight lead changes and four tie scores. Devin
Pullum and Nick Brown combined for 44 points and 12 three-point buckets. Pullum also dished out five assists in the game.
