On the evening of Friday May 7th. , a terrible windstorm came through the area, tossing trampolines, uprooting trees and downing power lines. In fact, according to Roosevelt County Electric Supervisor, Sammy Villanueva, the crazy winds hit 8 different substations, taking each one out of service. Power was out all over the county, leaving homes darker than normal through the night.
Roosevelt County Electric had 24 hard working men out, along roads where the lines were downed, to restore power. The men worked through the night Friday night all the way up to 3:00 am Sunday morning, there was still much work to be done, after a little rest they were back at it and got power back up to Roosevelt County.
The Roosevelt Review, The Courthouse Café and Sweetwaters at Landall’s have teamed up to provide these hard working men lunch. Each of the 24 employees received a gift card to one of the above mentioned locations for a meal to show our gratitude to them for their tireless efforts.
We just want these guys to know how much we appreciate them going above and beyond the call of duty – working through the night in high winds! Under the best of circumstances the work they do is not without risk and under bad circumstances it is downright dangerous.
