Obituary

Funeral services for Glenn A. Simoes and his mother Maria Belen Simoes will held at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, Portales, NM, on January 31, 2022, beginning with Rosary at 9:00am.  Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Francisco Carbajal at 10:00am.  Honorary pallbearers are Billy Owen, Jr., Jeff Terry, Brian Murphy-Dye and all his nieces and nephews.

Glenn Simoes was born on December 23, 1961 in Honolulu, HI to the home of Jose Simoes and Maria Belen Rael Simoes, and passed January 1, 2022, at the age of 60.

Glenn attended school for a short time in Bernalillo, NM and graduated from Portales High School in 1980.  Glenn was a proud member of the 1979 Portales Rams State Champion Football Team.  After High School he began working with his father at ARA Food Services at ENMU, and began his training as a baker.  He continued his love of baking while working in various bakeries including Walmart, Wyatts Cafeteria, and NMMI. For several years he drove trucks for Owen Trucking, before he went back to baking at the Portales Country Farmers Market.

Glenn was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church where he played guitar, and sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Glenn became a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan when he was in the 4th grade.  Like all the Simoes family, Glenn inherited the love of the Boston Red Sox, from his father. He loved showing his dislike for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.  Glenn was very proud of all his nephews and nieces, and loved to brag about their accomplishments.  He will always be remembered for his kind and caring soul, his love of music, and his cinnamon rolls.

He was preceded in death by his father on May 24, 2001, and most recently his mother on December 17, 2021.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Lewie Baker of Clayton, NM, brother and sister-in-law, Russell and  Yulia Simoes of Glen Allen, VA,  and  sister, Michelle Simoes of Portales.
