DALLAS, TEXAS — Just 10:23 into the second half of Thursday’s Heartland Conference match, Jesus Garcia found the back of the net to lift the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team (3-9-1; HC 2-7) to victory. The goal was the only in the game and along with two saves from Cody Wann, helped the Hounds snap a seven game skid.

Eastern’s win over Dallas Baptist (6-6-1; HC 3-5-1) gave Head Coach Paul Tate his 16th over his three years with the program to pull even with Carlos Elizondo for the program record. Additionally, it was his seventh Heartland win, the most conference victories for a men’s soccer coach at Eastern.

“It was a tough fought game,” Tate said. “We were playing hard and the guys were giving it there all. Our keeper and defense as a team just kept us in the game. Then we scored and worked hard to get our first shutout of the year. It was a great team effort.”
