Eastern New Mexico volleyball player Jasmine Gannon received her second straight All-Tournament Team recognition for her performance during the 2018 Hilltopper Volleyball Classic this past season.
Following a nod to the 2018 BritKare Lady Buff Classic All-Tournament Team a week ago, Gannon continued her stellar play on the court this past weekend in Austin, leading the Hounds to their first two victories of the season. The Clovis, N.M. native totaled 47 kills over the three matches and currently ranks fourth in the Lone Star Conference with an average of 3.50 kills per set.
Gannon has totaled 10 or more kills in every single match so far this season and got her weekend started at the Hilltopper Classic with a 16 kill performance in the opening match against Purdue-Northwest. Gannon and the Hounds battled back from being down 2-0 in the match and strung together three consecutive set victories to take the match 3-2.
That morning-match success carried over to the afternoon as Gannon posted a tournament-high attack percentage (.227) and total kills (17) to lead Eastern to their second consecutive 3-2 victory, this time over Colorado State-Pueblo. Gannon’s impact was felt on the court far beyond just her offensive output as she recorded double-doubles in both matches on Friday with 10 and 12 digs respectively.
After totaling 17.5 points in each match on Friday, Gannon’s 15.5 points on Saturday weren’t enough to help the Hounds take down host St. Edward’s in the final match of the tournament. However the consistency from Gannon and the immediate improvement of a young squad has the team moving in the right direction heading into their conference opening matches on Friday and Saturday on the road against Midwestern State and Cameron.
