New Mexico 30 x 30 Advisory Committee announces third public engagement survey
Santa Fe, NM –Today the New Mexico 30 x 30 Advisory Committee announces a third public Request for Information (RFI) to gather further clarification on the conservation activities most important to New Mexicans. This RFI solicits ideas for a “uniquely New Mexico” vision for conservation.
Since July 2022, over 370 New Mexicans have responded to two public Requests for Information (RFIs). They answered questions about conservation activities occurring in their communities, potential improvements to state agency-led conservation programs, and about draft definitions of terms that will be used to improve and monitor public conservation efforts and impacts throughout the state.
Based on that information and other work done to date, the 30 x 30 Committee has prepared a third RFI with updated draft definitions for the phrases conserved lands and climate stabilization areas. These updates are informed by public feedback from the second RFI and aim to include the many the diverse forms of conservation on both public and private lands that occur across the state.
“Public feedback has helped us identify common themes within our shared conservation goals,” said Committee Chair and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department Secretary Sarah Cottrell Propst. “The 30 x 30 Committee is seeking additional input at this time to help our ongoing assessment of the contributions and impacts of existing state programs on these efforts. We want to ensure that our 30 x 30 effort appropriately reflects the diverse conservation practices already occurring in New Mexico.”
All are welcome to respond to the RFI by filling out a survey using the following link: https://arcg.is/funTX. Responses will be most helpful if submitted by May 18, 2023. The comment period for this RFI is March 21 – May 18, 2023.
A virtual public meeting will be held in the middle of the comment period via WebEx on April 18, 5:30-7:30pm MST. All interested New Mexicans are invited to attend and hear directly from the 30 x 30 Committee, ask questions, and provide feedback.
