Graveside services for Frona (Kent) Jones, 89, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tues., Sept. 14, 2021 in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Josh Faucett officiating. Josh Kent, Jason Kent, Mike Pharis, Sean Roland, Eric Hall and Raegan Whitacre will serve as pallbearers. The family wants to thank all of the staff of Roosevelt General Hospital and the Lubbock hospital for the extreme care and love they gave to her while she was in their care.
Frona Jane (Kent) Jones, was born Mar. 1, 1932 in Plainview, TX to the home of Lucy Tobiatha (Boyton) and William Troy Wood and died early on the morning of Sept. 11, 2021 in Portales. On Jan. 15, 1953, in Huntington Beach, CA she was married to Bud Kent. They moved back to Portales in 1956, and farmed until lBud’s death in Jan. of 1980. On Dec. 26, 1980, she was married to Elmer Jones. For many years they enjoyed traveling and raising animals and a truck garden, and having many family gatherings at their home. Mr. Jones also preceded her in death on Nov 17, 2008. “Mom” or “Mammaw,” as so many besides family referred to her, loved to brag about her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Sherman Kent of Portales and David and Tammy Jones of Lubbock, TX; three daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Mark Madsen of Roswell, NM, Teresa Smith of Tucumcari and Sherry Watson of OR; her daughters-in-law, Molly Craig of Portales, Betty Wiggs of Portales and Valerie Brumfield of Dora; 24 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren along many who called her “Mammaw.” She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, T. R. and Jim Wood, a sister, Billie Jo Witt, a step-daughter, Glenda Reynolds and a son, Roy Hall.
