Funeral services for Franklin “Frank” Levacy, 83, of Portales will be at 2:00 PM, Mon., Feb. 27, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Butch Schneider officiating, assisted by Scott P. Reeves. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Frank L. Levacy, Andy Parks, Dustin Bare-Williamson, Larry Levacy, Mike Levacy, Larry Jewel and Preston Baggett serving as pallbearers Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #31.
Franklin B. Levacy, known to everyone as Frank, was born June 2, 1933 in Portales to the home of Maud (Adair) and James E. Levacy, and died early Fri. morning, Feb. 24, 2017 in Amarillo, TX. Frank lived his entire lifetime in Roosevelt County, with the exception of the time he spent in the Army during the Korean War. After serving in Korea, he was discharged in 1955. On July 14, 1956, in Portales, he was married to Wanda Gurley.
Frank worked for Smith Machinery, and later for Powell Pump Co. In 1968, he bought the company, and drilled wells and operated heavy equipment for nearly 20 years. In 1984, he established Levacy Trucking, and began hauling gravel and fertilizer and whatever else they could find.
Frank was a lifetime member and very active in VFW Post 9515, and served as Commander for a number of years. He also belonged to the Am Vets organization in Clovis. He loved to play pool, and was a member of a pool team. Frank looked forward to the tournaments each year.
He is survived by Wanda, his wife of more than 60 years of their home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Theresa Levacy and Steve and Martha Levacy all of Portales and a daughter, Veronica Levacy of Bowie, TX; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, J. T., Winston and Wayne Levacy and by a sister, Helen Franz.
