Recently graduated Eastern New Mexico standout Paul Terry has joined the Generals of The Spring League.

The Spring League is the premier professional football development league in the United States and has seen 141 players signed by either NFL or CFL teams since 2017. Terry will join one of six teams that will be showcased in the league in the Generals and will compete in four games this fall beginning Oct. 27.

“The NFL is the ultimate goal, and it’s a hands reach away now and that’s all I can ask for.” Terry said, “I’ve just been believing in God and knowing that my football days weren’t over. I’ve been training and grinding day in and day out, staying in shape, and ultimately waiting for an opportunity like The Spring League to play against legit competition and earn my way to the NFL.”

The league has been designed as an opportunity for scouts and front office personnel from various professional football leagues to evaluate players in a “real” football context. The majority of players competing in The Spring League have spent time on an NFL active, practice or pre-season roster.

Recent graduates such as Terry that were overlooked in the NFL or CFL draft process or free agent period are also given the opportunity to prove they are deserving of a professional contract.

Terry will have plenty of statistical backing as he looks to jump start his professional football career. The Amarillo, Texas native broke the Eastern New Mexico school record for rushing yards in a single season with 1,888 yards on the ground, eclipsing the 100-yard mark in all but one contest in 2019.

“I’ve always felt like I’ve had a good work ethic, but Eastern New Mexico has taught me how to have a great one.” Terry said, “Any opportunity in the NFL is the ultimate goal and that great work ethic I learned at Eastern has prepared me for this.”

He finished his Greyhound career ranked third all-time with 3,525 career rushing yards and ranked fourth all-time in the school record books in three separate categories including: rushing attempts (644), rushing touchdowns (32) and all-purpose yards (3,684). He was honored with the Male Greatest Greyhound Award for the 2019-20 season and was named as a First Team All-American selection in 2019 and a Second Team All-American selection in 2018 by the Don Hansen Football Committee.

Terry and the Generals will get their season started live on Fox Sports 1 at 6 p.m. local time against the Conquerors on Oct. 27. That game will be the first of three total games the Generals will take part in scheduled to air live on Fox Sports 1 including games against the Blues on Oct. 11 and the Aviators on Nov. 18.

All games this fall for The Spring League will take place in San Antonio, Texas.
