Floyd Senior Cobe Correa Wins Character Award
Floyd Senior Cobe Correa is one of several winners across the nation to receive the high school Burlsworth Character Award for his demonstration of character on the football field. According to the Burlsworth Character Website, the award honors the player who may or may not be a top athletic performer, but who represents the ideals and values that Brandon Burlsworth had: to give 100 percent on the field and to stand as a moral example to his team.”
Correa earned All District honors this past season as a linebacker and was selected as Defensive MVP in Bronco football, as well as earning the team’s leadership award. He also earned the Fighting Heart Award given by the Floyd Lion’s Club this year. Cobe also served his final year at Floyd as FFA president, National Honor Society vice president, and class president, as well as being a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Council. He is also involved in the youth group at Third & Kilgore Church of Christ.
The Burlsworth Character award is given in memory of Burlsworth who was a walk-on to the University of Arkansas football team in 199. He not only earned a team scholarship but went on to become team captain and an All American. He was also successful in the classroom, earning All-SEC Academic Honor Roll honors for three years and becoming the first football player in Arkansas history to earn a Master’s Degree ‘before” playing his last game. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1999 but was tragically killed in a head-on car crash just 11 days after the draft. The biographical sports movie Greater, released in 2016, details his life story.
