PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team dropped a heart-wrenching 1-0 setback to UT Permian Basin on Friday night at Greyhound Stadium. Keeper Ryan Flores made nine saves in the match, including four in the second half. ENMU falls to 3-11-1 on the season and 2-9 in Heartland Conference play.

The Greyhounds took a scoreless tie into the locker room at halftime. Flores made six saves in the opening half after facing 14 shots by the Falcons. Robert Leonard forced the issue offensively in the first period, peppering a pair of shots, but neither found the back of the net.

The Falcons broke the scoring seal in the 63rd-minute when Brandon Lee found Jorge Murillo early in the second half. After falling behind, the Greyhounds continued to apply pressure to UTPB late in the second half. Christopher Mesquita fired four shots, three of which were on goal, but none were able to trickle past Alec Sproule of the Falcons to net the equalizer.

The Hounds return to the pitch on Saturday, October 21, against West Texas A&M. Kickoff against the Buffs is slated for 1 p.m. at Greyhound Stadium. For all the latest news on ENMU Athletics, visit GoEasternAthletics.com and follow @ENMUAthletics on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
