Fall is upon us and it is time to complete some tasks prior to the cold temperatures on the horizon.  Things you should do include:

Winterize your lawn with a quality lawn Winterizer.   Even though the grass may not be growing after the first freeze, the roots are still active over the winter.   Give them the nutrients they need now so your lawn will be healthy and lush next spring.

Cut the tops off of perennials and compost or dispose.   This is also a great time to divide them and add more plants to your beds.

Do not trim spring flowering shrubs such as Lilac, Forsythia and Snowball bushes as they set their spring flower buds in the fall.   Wait until after they bloom in the spring to trim them.

Do not fertilize trees and shrubs at this time because they are getting ready to “rest” during the winter.   Instead, wait until the danger of freeze has past in the spring to fertilize.

If we do not have adequate moisture over the winter months, deep water your trees and shrubs at least once a month, since their roots are still active.

Plant spring bulbs such as Tulips, Daffodils and Hyacinths now as they need the cold days of winter to be able to flower in the early spring.

Cover faucets prior to the first freeze to protect pipes from the cold months ahead.   Also, drain your hoses and remove so they don’t freeze and crack.

Its that time of year again, temperatures are perfect for decorating your porch with fall flowers. We have a new shipment of mums, kale, pansies and hanging baskets. — at GardenSource Nursery and Landscaping.
