Evelyn Mae Harmon was born Oct. 16, 1917 in Muleshoe, TX to Leota (Grant) and Harry E. Wilterding, and died Mar. 15, 2017 in Clovis, NM. Mrs. Harmon grew up in Muleshoe and graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1935. That same summer, on July 7th, she was married to Russell Harmon. They made their home near Muleshoe until 1938 when they moved to House. They farmed there until 2001, when they moved to Portales to be close to their children.
Mrs. Harmon worked along side her husband, doing everything that was needed to run a farm and cattle operation. She was known for her excellent cooking, to the extent that hands would come to work on weekends just to eat her cooking. In addition to the things she did on the farm, she was assistant Postmaster at House from the 1950’s until sometime in the 1960’s. She remained a member of the First Christian Church in Muleshoe, even though she and her family attended the Methodist church in House.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Sue Harmon of Clovis; five grandchildren, Twyla (Rob) Coleman of Clovis, Bob (Ronda) Harmon of Los Alamos, NM, Brenda (J.) Hammond of Cloudcroft, NM, Russell Harmon of Clovis and Bryce (Darla) Harmon of Ripon, CA; 13 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Wilterding of Boise, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Elmer and Jack Wilterding, two sisters, Oleta Richardson and Alice Bland; a son and daughter-in-law, Kay and LaQuita Harmon, a great-great-granddaughter, Rachel Harmon and by her beloved husband, Russell, who died Aug. 31, 2002 after more than 67 years of marriage.
