Evelyn Christina (Rains) Gordon April 20, 1928 ~ December 19, 2022 (age 94)

Graveside services only for Evelyn Gordon, 94, will be held on December 28 at 2:00 pm at the Elida Cemetery in Elida, NM with Pastor Marcus McClain officiating.  Music will be by her precious niece Corinna Smith.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International in her memory as it was an organization that was dear to her heart.

Evelyn (Rains) Gordon moved to Heaven on December 19, 2022 in Decatur, TX where she resided.   Evelyn was born April 20, 1928 in Quay County, NM to Marion Claud and Vera (Jackson) Rains.  She started school in Quay, attended schools in Portales, NM and graduated from high school in Post, TX.

She married J.D. Gordon in Post, TX on February 22, 1947.  They lived in California until 1961 when they moved to Portales, NM.  They owned and operated College Cleaners before selling it to her mother, Vera Rains.  Evelyn also worked for First National Bank and Portales National Bank.  They moved to Hurst, TX in 1966 where they resided until J.D. passed in 1991. Evelyn also worked in banking for many years while living in Texas.  After retiring from American Airlines, Evelyn moved to Clovis, NM in 1993. Evelyn then worked at the Central Office for the Clovis Municipal Schools until 2006. She also served as a Pink Lady for several years at Plains Regional Hospital in Clovis and also at Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari. In 2006 she moved to San Jon, NM where she lived until 2021 when she moved to Decatur, TX. Evelyn was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she loved her family deeply and fiercely. She loved people and loved to talk. As much as Evelyn loved her family though, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ more than anything. As the daughter of a preacher, Evelyn had a lifelong relationship with God and was a devout Christian, known by friends and loved ones for her faithful and constant prayers. Nothing brought her more joy than singing hymns while playing her much loved piano, meeting new people, and visiting with those she held dear.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson Cody J. Gordon, brothers Bud Rains (wife Hazel), John Rains, Dutch Rains, sister Juanita Graves (husband Donald) and a brother-in-love Leeman Pape.  She is survived by her children, Gregg and Becky Gordon of San Jon, NM, Mike and Kathy Gordon of Cushing, TX and Chris and Rick Durham of Decatur, TX.   She is also survived by grandchildren Kelly (Duane) Bullion, Casey Gordon, and Katy (Chris) Eisenberg.  Monte (Diana) Gordon and Dustin Gordon.  Alisa (Monty) Leaf.  Great-grandchildren MacKenzie Bullion, Dalton and Jackson Owens, Jessica and Duncan Goldston, Hailey, Hayden and Hunter Gordon, London and Gunnar Leaf.  She is also survived by her youngest sister, Annita Pape and two sister-in-loves Billie Rains and Pat Rains and many very much loved nieces and nephews.
