The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team and Head Coach Sia Poyer announced the addition of Evelyn Escobar to the coaching staff. Escobar, an ENMU alum, will serve as the assistant coach.
“I’m looking forward to having Evelyn on the staff,” Poyer said. “She is a student of the game, a hard-worker, young, energetic and full of zeal and passion to be a coach at the college level.”
Escobar spent two seasons with the Greyhounds in 2011-12 after transferring in from Imperial Valley College. The Calexico, Calif., native recorded 265 kills, 183 digs and 42 blocks during her time at ENMU.
“I’m very excited to be part of the ENMU volleyball program and am looking forward to having a fun and successful season,” Escobar said. “I have 17 years of volleyball experience; I love the game and have a passion for it. Being an assistant for ENMU is a great accomplishment for me.”
ENMU returns 13 players from last season’s 19-13 squad that posted the best finish since the 2004 season, earning a fourth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference regular season and first win at the LSC Tournament since 2004.
The Hounds open up the season on Fri., Sept. 1, against Wayne State at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. For the latest news on ENMU Athletics, follow @greyhoundvball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram or visit GoEasternAthletics.com.
