GUNNISON, Colo. – The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team traveled to Western Colorado University Friday afternoon and the Greyhounds came away with a 1-0 victory after a late game-winner by Selena Casias.

The first half saw the Hounds pressure offensively as they led in shots (7-3) and shots on goal (4-1) which forced the Mountaineer goalkeeper to come up with several saves in order to keep the game tied at 0-0.

The score remained tied through most of the second half until S. Casias found the back of the net with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Eastern’s defense held off Western Colorado’s offense the rest of the way to secure the close 1-0 win.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Both teams recorded 12 shots, while Eastern led in shots on goal (8-4).
  • ENMU and Western Colorado each had four corner opportunities.
  • Katey Stice paced the Hounds in shots with four, while Kelsey Medina had three.
  • S. Casias, Stice, and Medina all had two shots on goal. 
  • Whitney Dockweiler made four saves in net to earn the shutout and improve to 2-1 on the season.
